For Bending Spoons, artificial intelligence is already an operational tool: it supports software development, data analysis, customer service and improvements to acquired businesses. Luca Ferrari, the company’s CEO and co-founder, discussed its use on 27 October 2026 at the first Forum Economico Moneta, “Competing in the new global landscape”.
Bending Spoons and AI: the figure for AI-assisted code
“For the companies we have acquired, we have almost always made extensive use of AI to improve them. Today we write around 95% of our code with the help of AI: it is the highest level of use I have seen among the companies I know,” Ferrari explained.
The figure concerns code written with AI assistance, according to the CEO. It does not mean that 95% of development takes place without human involvement: that distinction clarifies the tools’ role in the teams’ work.
Data, customer service and proprietary technologies
Ferrari added: “We carry out almost all our data analysis with AI, as well as a very significant part of customer support. We invest heavily in development internally and have a range of proprietary technologies related to the use of AI, including through the application of third-party technologies. We therefore use AI extensively to improve scalability and operational efficiency, and also to enhance the products we acquire.”
In the strategy described by the executive, AI supports several stages of work, from building products to organising processes. Proprietary technologies sit alongside third-party tools, within a method based on continuous experimentation.
Acquiring technology businesses and improving their products
Founded in Copenhagen in 2013 and subsequently established in Milan, Bending Spoons has specialised in acquiring technology companies with untapped growth potential. Its model involves improvements to products, organisation and operational efficiency, with a long-term operating perspective.
On its website, the company reports more than one billion registered users, over 400 million monthly active users and more than seven million monthly paying customers. These indicators describe different measures of the user base and should not be added together.
Milan, talent selection and international growth
The CEO also reaffirmed the importance of the Milan headquarters: “Last year we reviewed thousands of CVs before selecting 300 people, many of them Italian. We also hire in Spain, Poland and London, and next year we aim to grow in the United States too.”
The reference to “next year” in the speech of 27 October 2026 concerns 2027: a prospect for growth in the United States indicated by Ferrari, distinct from the recruitment activity already described.
From Milan to Nasdaq
The company’s international development also includes its debut on the Nasdaq Global Select Market on 1 July 2026 under the symbol BSP. The company’s announcement on the completion of its initial public offering confirms this milestone, which broadens access to capital markets for a strategy focused on growth and acquisitions.
